I purchased this last week because of the amazing deal. A friend purchased the same one, the refurbished version as well, on the same day as me. His was fine. He said it didn't look new, but looked like someone made an effort to make it look new, which is basically how I think of a refurbished product. I expected that it had been looked at by some sort of expert, tested, thoroughly cleaned, etc. I couldn't have been more wrong. This vacuum was what I would expect from a heavily used 5 or 6 year old vacuum to look like. I would have expected this kind of shape if I bought it for $50 at a garage sale. It had NOT been cleaned, it still had the previous owner's pet hair visible inside the tank, along with layers of dust. No one had cleaned out the inside. And, the bottom of the vacuum head had pieces of plastic broken off entirely and the bristles were frayed and old. This was an expensive joke. Seems like you might end up with a fine vacuum or might end up with a broken old piece of garbage, so hope for the best if you're purchasing this.
