This would be great if it worked. The design is good: clips onto the side of the pot, the top part is made of a material that doesn't get too hot so it is easy to remove, and the scale is clearly readable both in Celsius and Fahrenheit. I wanted it to make toffee, which needs to reach around 305 F. The one we got worked pretty well until it got to around 250 F, slowly increasing to point to around 270 F - and then not rising above that, no matter how hot the sugar got. The first time I tried it, I noticed that the toffee started getting really dark and the thermometer was stuck at 270. The second time, I used another (different model) thermometer for comparison. While the other thermometer had reached 310, this one was still at 270 F. The toffee was indeed around 310, as when I emptied it onto the tray it was a dark caramel color and it was the right toffee consistency. I uploaded a graph showing the real temperature vs the temperature read by this thermometer (see under customer images). I was sad that this thermometer didn't work.
