I would have give then water heater 5 stars until today. Today I arrive home with the smell of an electrical fire permeating the garage where this the WH is installed. History. Received by freight on time. Warranty stated it would not be honored unless installed by a licensed plumber. So I scheduled one. On 10/28/16 I was taken for $600 for less than 2 hours work and $40 worth of pipe fittings for the connection. I guess I should have been a plumber. Things worked fine until today. Something in the lower heating element burned up - see pictures of electrical fire soot carbon scoring coming from under cover with heat damage to cover itself. Water was pouring out of the bottom into the drain pan and flowing outside. Now we'll see about that lifetime warranty. If they replace the unit without a struggle, I'll post an update and raise the rating. We should have been able to reasonably expect at least to years out of this WH. Less than 6 months is the pits.
