Big budget production but poor writing and execution disappoint.
I had big expectations for this series and settled in to watch Episode 1 of the Rings of Power. As the story began to unfold, I was appalled by the slow pacing and heavy-handed dialog. I was not impressed with this project, which looked like it was put together by a group of film-school students making their first movie. The central character, Gladriel (a female elf) battled a Snow Troll early in the first episode, and her twirling and flourishing swordplay was distracting and not in character with the story. I could not bear to watch what I considered a sophomoric production of J.R.R. Tolkein's prequel to Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of The Rings. While Sauron is certainly a very solid villian, the Elven characters left much to be desired. It was impossible to 'care' about the characters and I shut off the episode and found something else to watch. Amazon invested huge money in this 8-episode series, and it saddens me to see that amount of money thrown away on a project that falls so far short of expectations.
