Kool It vs. Klima Cleaner
So, I've been a long time user of Kilma Cleaner from Einszett... now Nextzett. Well after not being able to get my hands on one for over six months (at least) I decided to try the Kool It despite Klima Cleaner being back in stock. I figured for the price, which is several dollars less than Klima, and the good reviews, it was worth a shot. So with that being said, here's my take.
Application: I highly suggest you don't apply it through the drain tube as directed by Kool It. First, it was impossible to find the drain tube on my Nissan and for good reason, the drain tube is short and doesn't reach too far past the evaporator box making it impossible to access. So I went the route that Nextzett recommends for their Klima Cleaner which is to remove the blower motor and gain direct access to the evaporator box.
After applying it I found out another good reason to go through the blower motor is so you don't accidentally flood the evaporator box and have it overflow into the blower motor - at least in my case. In some cases, the ducting is a longer distance between the blower motor and the evaporator box which means you'll need as much product as possible (this is important as I'll mention later). Anyway, I removed the blower motor and had direct access to the evaporator. Inserted the tube and sprayed. I used almost all of the can as it was filled enough in there. I replaced the blower motor and by the time I finished it was time to run the AC. Smelled like the Double Mint twins (reference to Wrigley's Spearmint gum for those who are old enough to remember). Anyway, it seemed to do its thing... until it didn't. After a week or so the odor returned. Unlike Klima Cleaner, the Kool It didn't seem to be as potent. Klima Cleaner has a stronger disinfectant smell to it that you notice immediately.
Disappointed, I ended up buying Klima Cleaner. First thing I noticed was the sizable difference in the can (see pic). Klima Cleaner comes in a volume of 10 fl oz and Kool It states 6 oz Net Weight. But it's not just a bigger can. I weighed Klima Cleaner and it came in at 11.4 oz Net weight. So far this looked like a heavy weight vs a featherweight competition. The math says it all right there, at least almost double in weight. Suddenly the lower price doesn't seem as much a bargain.
Anyway, I applied Klima as they directed which is how I applied it for Kool It. Removed the blower motor and sprayed directly. Except this time I have more than enough for a second car which makes it a great deal. Now, if I had longer ducting to get to the evaporator box, the extra product would've definitely come in handy.
One nice feature about the Klima Cleaner tube is that it sprays in three directions (Kool It sprays one way). If I were applying it through ducting I could see that helping in spraying it evenly through the system.
I reinstalled the blower motor. With the product mostly drained I ran the AC. Immediately noticed that the scent of alcohol is stronger. After a day the fragrance and alcohol smell were gone. I'm some weeks out and it still smells like nothing, which is exactly what I want.
Bottom line, I'm glad Klima is back. First you get nearly twice as much and more importantly it works better.
