★★☆☆☆
Interesting subject, poorly presented
Focused (approaching myopic) look at the impressive wartime activities of this single woman, but the book reads a bit like a string of 3X5 note cards pasted together, each episode sprinkled with a "How would she be able to..." type query. The result: very slow and tedious reading: episode after episode providing only a very superficial view of this clearly private individual. What a pity. To cap it all off, the title really grates: in spite of the author's clear admiration for Virginia Hall's Resistance efforts, the title "A Woman of No Importance, " while intended to show the opposite, in a sense perpetuates the long-time discounting of Miss Hall's achievements, especially when coupled with the subtitle that seems to imply that, almost single-handedly, she won the war.
