Since the cost of vanilla beans has risen so much, I opted to try a vanilla bean paste to replace the vanilla beans in my baked goods. Even though I had seen great reviews for this product, even on other sites, I have to agree with the many who gave this product a bad review. Using this vanilla bean paste horribly alters the taste of the baked goods that I used it in. I intended to use it in a vanilla bean cupcake with a vanilla bean icing, but the taste was so different than anything I've ever tasted...and not in a good way. I tried to hide the taste by changing the icing to a chocolate, but still the strange flavor was so pronounced. I was apologizing to guests at a party; definitely not up to par with what I normally bake. Very disappointed that I spent so much money to just have to throw this jar away.
