I bought this as a replacement for a rental so I can stop paying almost $40 a month. When we got it, each piece was wrapped individually and in the case. As I started putting it together, I noticed how much lighter it felt compared to the rental and other clarinets I've handled over the years. Once it was together I played it and the tone was tinny, out of tune and weak. It didn't have that nice round sound you find with clarinets. I got the rental out and played a c note on each and it sounded like it was coming from a totally different type of instrument. It was noticeably lower sounding than the rental. Just to make sure I wasn't hearing things, I had my son play a middle c on the rental while I played the same on this one. The difference was so remarkable that I couldn't justify keeping the one from Amazon, even if it saved me forty a month. I wish I thought to take a video of the sound before returning it so you will just have to trust me that this refurbished one is defective or just horrible quality. I wouldn't buy it for a beginner or any one.
