Great idea that did not work....in Florida
Background.... I had a Tempurapedic that was hot. I changed it for conventional mattress with a slight foam topper and I was happy. But, I like to sleep cool. Living in Florida, that is important. I bite.... Happened to see this topper with the 30 day return guarantee, I ordered. [Amazon is amazing with efficiency of returns. Seamless.] Still, while ordering and reading the reviews, I wonder how a thin piece of fabric made of polyester can diffuse heat? Where does the heat go? Has to go down to the mattress. It does not have magic channels that vent heat sideways away from your body. It can not generate coolness either because that takes heat exchangers etc. Like with an AC unit. I think and wonder and finally make the decision to order. It's here..... I was excited when it arrived. I could hardly wait to put it o the bed. I did, and that night I got in my bed and indeed it felt nice and cool. Well for minutes. The material is able to take some heat from my body [that's what makes your body interpret cool - removal of heat] but, it has limited heat removal capabilities. It has to transfer the heat from your body to the topper and then to the mattress. Where else is it going to go? Maybe, maybe you get a bit of heat exchange sideways, but, has to be very, very small amount. So, nothing changed except putting this topper on top of my mattress. It transferred heat, but, then when overloaded, made me feel hot. It actually felt hotter than without the pad in the first place. It was not comfortable. Whaaaat.... So, as with everything I read the directions. It says to be sure you have the room at 65 degrees. I quote from the directions - "Keep your bedroom temperature at or below 65 degrees." Wait, my room is normally very comfortable at 72 degrees and 65 might double my AC bill. If I turned down the AC to 65, then I would not need the pad and would need a thick comforter. You guys up North may think 65 is beach weather, but in Florida that is freezing for us. I was just on a cruise where room temp was 67 and I had to ask for extra blankets. Yes, could have turned the thermostat higher, but, it was such a unique experience pretending I lived at the North Pole. Plus the white noise of that vent blowing. The end..... I decided that it may help some people with the Tempurahot mattresses. That is not me. My mattress is just fine, and this pad did not work for me. It worked against me. It made me hotter. It may work for your body, mattress, location and room temperature situation. Suggest.... It will cost you nothing to order, try and you may like it. That is the only way to find out. Don't set your expectations too high. I rated it "2" because I dislike the word hate. Hope this helps.
