Siskill & Ebbit review
First let me start by saying I knew what I was getting into before I purchased this item, and I purchased it with the full intent of modifying it for functionality instead of it being picturesque like in this advertisement. 1.) This raised bed garden is not really intended for outdoor use unless you seal the wood (Which is fairly lightweight). 2.) The garden area is only 8 inches high so there is no possible way that you could grow as many vegetables as the pictures shows for the sole reason that you wouldn't have enough room for the enormous root growth. 3.) The black landscaping liner is not a moisture barrier as the advertisement suggests. After I sealed the item for outdoor use I lined the garden area with thick mill painters plastic (Now that's a moisture barrier). So the company that makes this item should have included a plastic liner instead of the useless fabric liner they give you. 4.) THE DESCRIPTION: GARDEN BED LINER: Separates wood from the soil, keeping planter in excellent condition and preventing weeds and pests from interfering with plant growth. -CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT KIND OF WEEDS ARE GOING TO INTERFERE WITH A RAISED BED GARDEN SUCH AS THIS ONE? Unless you throw some of your lawn clipping in there you'll never have a problem with weeds. 5.) The 4 drainage holes are lined up with 4 of the lower shelf pieces. Even if the wood is sealed the water that drains will wind up staining the wood and rotting and warping it quicker (I installed all of the shelf pieces except those 4 and extended the drainage holes below the shelf using PVC tubing). No need to secure the PVC tubing if you make it a nice snug fit. Use your head people. Make the drainage hole a perfect fit this way when you push the PVC past the plastic (from the liner you made), then through the drainage hole, the plastic will make it a snug fit while at the same time it's making sure it's water tight and the wood won't get wet (water tight just like a duck's butt) XD OVERALL RATING: 2 STARS
