I can't believe I read the whole 3 book series...I am an idiot, what a waste of time
The 3 books in this series could have - and should have - been 1 novel. I'm posting my review on the first book because I would hate for you to get reeled in like I did and read the series. Save yourselves! Stop now! There were mind numbingly tedious descriptions of Benella foraging for food, how many patches were in the ragged shirts she wore, how she was comfortable in trousers, repetitive descriptions of biscuits, plates of fruit and cheese and in the third book, I wanted to scream at the 400th description of who was scrubbing the floors in the ballroom and who was picking apples... there was too much filler with mundane, dull tasks and not enough action or plot. Not only that, there was never a full description of what she looked like or the Beast. He was described as having a tail, soft fur, surrounded by swirling mist but yet he was able to write letters and unbraid her hair? How come he was on all fours and then suddenly he's wearing pants and dancing? How was he able to hold a pen? Did he have paws with claws or just furry fingers? The author couldn't seem to make her mind up of how "beastly" his physical form actually was. And Benella's physical appearance was barely described at all.. meanwhile her 2 sisters were just caricatures of selfish b****es. I was initially intrigued by the two main characters and since Depravity, Book 1 of the series, was free on Kindle Unlimited, I read it. It was entertaining - about a 3 star rating. But it came to such an abrupt, cliff hanger of an ending, I went ahead and paid $3.99 for the 2nd book, Deceit. There were too many detailed descriptions of the sexual assaults and other acts of physical violence and not enough of the romance. Not enough detail or back story on the characters, too many banal details on the unimportant activities. The second book ended just as abruptly as the first and so I (ridiculously) relented and bought the third, Devastation. That was the worst of the 3 books, the author was basically just phoning it in. If you took out the physical violence, the descriptions of food, party preparations and baths, it would be about 50 pages. I don't usually write reviews, I'll give ratings about half of the time, but I really regretted wasting my time on these books. And it's made me seriously doubt the ratings that are posted on here...how these book got 4+ stars is beyond my comprehension.
