Just a Bad Experience
I knew it would be a chore to set up, but mostly you are waiting for updates. The printer worked as a wireless printer on my phone, from my laptop, and from my iPad. Just not for very long. On the fourth print, the paper jammed. I cleared the jam. The printer showed an error code. I tried, over and over, to find a paper jam, but the printer was basically dead. Some online references say that Error 48 mans a bad board or print head. The troubleshooting takes you through spots where the printer might jam and then, at the end if nothing helps, tells you to contact a service center. I spent an hour, but the error message persisted. This printer is marketed as having 'up to one year of ink'. But the manual says something about 'starter ink'. These are big cartridges but the ones in the box are not very full once you fire up the printer and get the thing primed with ink. See the picture. I was going to get another one, but the ink clinched it for me. I don't think this is much ink. I went through a dismal experience with HP and their 'free ink'. I tried to join but the printer could never get logged into the web service. That went back to Best Buy. I don't like any of the new marketing games, big ink or free ink or whatever. Somebody pays somewhere. I am going back to my 13 year old laser, even if I have to run it on Linux.
