It does NOT accurately measure powder.
We received the Baby Brezza as a gift, and it seems like an awesome idea. While it does prepare a bottle conveniently, it does NOT do so accurately. Let me explain: I read the directions multiple times before assembly. Luckily, the formula brand I use is listed right in the Baby Brezza manual, so I set it accordingly. After set up, it was finally time to make our first bottle. With the push of a button, the wheels within the powder container turned, and I could visibly see some formula powder enter the funnel as warm water streamed in. The bottle was not mixed very well (I could see clumps of powder), so I had to further shake the bottle before serving. What worried us was the significantly small amount of powder that seemed to be entering the funnel. Hmm. We tried making a few more bottles, and each time, there seemed to be so little powder being dumped into the bottle. Even after making sure there were no "air bubbles" inside the powder container, I was worried. I decided to do an experiment. By securing a piece of plastic inside the funnel piece, I wanted to catch the powder before it mixed with water and entered the bottle. YES, I realize this is not the proper way to use the machine. But as a mother, I HAVE to know whether my child is getting the proper amount of nutrients. As I suspected, the Brezza was only depositing a fraction of the correct amount of powder for a 4 oz bottle. Please refer to my photo of how much powder the Brezza thought a 4 oz bottle needed, and how much I actually scooped in by hand. I was appalled. For a company to produce a machine that is responsible for preparing something as vital as your newborn's food, it HAS to have a precise way of measuring the powder and this DOES NOT. It is measuring the formula simply by rotating some wheels and "raking" the powder through an opening. There is no mechanism to weigh the proper amount. And there are too many variables that can interfere with powder depositing (see numerous photos on the web of the "crustified" powder that collects around the funnel openings). Here's the cold hard truth: the only reason this device gets decent reviews are from parents that are blinding pushing a button and seeing a pretty white liquid end up in the bottle. They aren't investigating further to see whether it is making a correct bottle. If you care about the nutrients your baby must receive, just take the extra 2 minutes and make a bottle by hand. Drinking formula is such a short phase of your child's life anyway. Make it right, not easy. Other notes: YES. I set up my machine correctly. NO, I'm not the only consumer that has come to this conclusion (look up numerous blogs about other parents' issues and concerns). Some parents have blogged that they weigh the bottle after each use to make sure it was made properly. But weighing a bottle still doesn't accurately tell you the water/powder ratio (AND, what's the point of this "convenient" machine if you mistrust it to the point you have to weigh the bottle?).
