Unreliable, poor quality parts - compounded by a dangerous failure mode (Rev F)
Same failure mode as is well documented here and around the web. Of the two LM888 controllers that were supplied with my 8500 openers in 2013, one failed last night causing the garage door to open itself and remain wide open. Moreover, be aware that the MyQ app showed the door to still be closed since the controller was no longer communicating with the wireless bridge. Had I been away, I would not have known that the door was open. Since the controller is well out of warranty, I took it apart and discovered one of the two large capacitors is failing with a bulging top and leakage around the pins.(see pictures) I ordered a replacement controller and will also replace the capacitor on the old one to see if it will come back to life. Liftmaster's electronics have proven unreliable in my experience (4x failed 895max remotes, now this wall controller) and so, ironically, they really require constant direct supervision. The accessories that have not failed yet are the other LM888, both ceiling lights and the wireless bridge. My assessment of the 8500 openers remains the same - love the openers - hate the accessories' poor quality and unreliability. Update: My other LM888 controller failed exactly the same as #1 above. Garage door was closed last night and open this morning. LM888 is dead. Same super-cap is bulging top and bottom. I'll order another one simply because I love the jack-screw openers. Everyone else - be aware. This wall controller is the weak (dangerous) link. Mine are Rev. F. Both died in under 4-yrs. Point is that both of them opened their door in the middle of the night upon failure.
