The other half said he would like to get a waffle iron that flipped, like the ones hotels use. I couldn't really see the point in that but I did want a new iron with removable plates so we ordered this one. I have to say, it makes the best waffles I've ever made at home. They're thick! Crispy and golden on the outside, fluffy and perfect on the inside. They're thick enough that you can easily add berries, chocolate chips, or nuts to the batter and not have to worry about any of it getting smashed when you close the iron. As long as you let them cook until the light comes back on, they are easy to remove too. Once done, let the iron cool off, press a couple of buttons to remove the plates, and toss the plates in the dishwasher. Perfect! **Updating and lowering my rating. After about 1.5 years, the non-stick coating on the plates is peeling off and they are leaving a nasty black residue on our hands when we touch them. Definitely not impressed that this has happened this soon! Replacing just the plates will cost as much as a whole new waffle iron so it's not even worth it. We'll be looking for a different brand now. I remember when Hamilton Beach made a good product but unfortunately that doesn't appear to be the case anymore.
