My daughters received this and another GoldieBlox set as a gift... As an engineer, I liked the idea of a focus on a mechanical concept as part of playing. Unfortunately, the actual build/design quality of the components is too poor to support the concept. The cubes that form the primary construction junctures don't consistently hold the plastic straw construction members, and due to the lack of fixed insertion depths in the holes of the cubes, it's nearly impossible to get anything built that is square or stable. In this set, with a dunk tank target that is supposed to get hit by a thrown ball, it's ridiculous. Tinker toys, erector sets or gold old Legos are far better for constructing things that actually move and allow experimentation with mechanical engineering concepts. I feel bad, as it appears to be trying to do a good thing, but it's too frustrating and flimsy in its execution for me to recommend it. 2 stars instead of 1, as it didn't actively injure or endanger my kids :)
