Cisco advertises the SG100D-08P as an 8-port Gigabit PoE switch. I read the spec sheets on their web site and everything led me to believe that the Cisco SG100D-08P is a true 8-port gigabit, 803.af switch, and I believed the price was so low just because the Cisco SG100D-08P is an unmanaged switch. The truth of the matter is that the Cisco SG100D-08P switch supports PoE on only ports 1-4, and supports gigabit on only four out of eight ports (the rest will be "fast" ethernet, or 100mbps). I did a lot of digging today and found reports from others which confirmed the same thing I am running into with this client: that they could find NO public documents specifying these limitations with the Cisco SG100D-08P, and I finally found a thread on Cisco's messageboard where one particularly irate customer had worked their way up to the product manager who confirmed the limitation with the Cisco SG100D-08P. We purchased two of these Cisco SG100D-08P unmanaged gigabit PoE ethernet switches for a client and now a month after the fact we discover that the cake is a lie! Cisco promised us cake, but they delivered us cowpies instead. The advertising for this Cisco SG100D-08P switch falls somewhere between bait-and-switch and outright fraud. It is at minimum extremely deceptive on Cisco's part. Do yourself a favor and do not buy this Cisco SG100D-08P switch.
