Absolute Rubbish - But I have a solution
I read all the reviews and not sure why I thought that I would have a different outcome. The solar panels do not charge the battery and at best, it might slightly (very slightly) extend your battery life. Regardless, it cannot get enough light to charge the ring, even in direct sunlight with optimal conditions ( I tested it by moving it with the sun during the day). So I would say no matter what you want this for, it is not the solution.
The true solution is the ring or wasserstein solar panel. The problem is that they don't make one compatible with the ring doorbell. What you can do is buy a 3.5mm x 1.35mm Female Jack Converter (don't get the 2.1mm) to micro usb (I used a female 1.35mm to male 2.1mm and then a 2.1mm to micro usb adapter), which will fit in the the back of the ring doorbell. I also bought a couple of wedges to drill a hole in the bottom for the cord to have access to the back of the ring. I also wrapped the connections in electrical tape. Be sure to get a micro usb cord with a 90 degree left angle or it will be hard to fit.

Update: I installed these in three of our units, and I found with the amount of traffic that the areas receive and the settings I wanted (120second recording, snapshot, higher sensitivity, etc.), it was better to just hardwire it. I have the Ring Generation 1 (Generation 2). I just ended up using a micro usb cord and wiring it to our basement outlet. Because they are suppose to be "battery only", it will not register as being connected to a power source, but it works. Cord below.
