Some research on the proposition 65 warning
I thought I'd try to save a few dollars, but it turns out not all organic acacia senegal is the same, like where it's sourced from matters.
I'm a long time very happy user of the slightly more expensive Heathers Tummy Fiber Organic Acacia Senegal--it's almost magical how well it works. I thought I'd give it a try, but after a couple of months I'm not nearly as happy with the results.
What I was also not very happy about was the fact that even though it was less expensive this product comes with a proposition 65 warning about it containing lead. I emailed Anthony's to ask why their product has lead in its sufficient to require the warning (Heather's product page doesn't have the warning) but it's been 3 weeks, and they never got back to me, and I wasn't able to find a contact phone number.
So I called Heather's to ask why they weren't posting a proposition 65 warning (maybe they forgot?) but initially got a recorded message asking me to be patient because they're so busy. I hung up and to my surprise 10 minutes later the phone rang and Heather's was calling me back.
So I asked why they don't have a warning--here's why: I was told the Heather's Organic Acacia Senegal does not require the proposition 65 warning because testing shows there's nothing in it that requires the warning.
So even if I didn't care about consuming traces of lead everyday, which of course I do, I did notice that this stuff didn't work as well for me. The Anthony's is very powdery, almost like talc, but the Heather's has a different, far less "puffy" more "grain-ish" texture, but dissolves beautifully. So I'm sticking with Heather's for all the above reasons.
I don't mean to say that Anthony's is selling some kind of dangerous product--not at all, in fact they did exactly what they're supposed to do by posting the warning. (I was surprised to learn my favorite balsamic vinegar has traces of lead sufficient to trigger the warning). Anthony's has all kinds of great stuff (not counting their unresponsive customer support!) I just got their powdered buttermilk and it's wonderful. Just can't recommend their Acacia Senegal.
Bottom line, where you get raw materials matters (just look at how many folks want to know if ingredients are sourced in China for example) and even in the same region depending on pollution and lead levels in the soil etc, all that's going to make a difference. The trade off for me isn't worth a few dollars saved, even if I wasn't paranoid about consuming lead--as I say it just wasn't working as well for me.
Hoping everyone has a happy tummy, and do yourself a huge favor and spend some time taking the Heather's, you will not regret it. Stay safe, take care.
