★★☆☆☆
only for single males under 40
I'll start out by saying that I really believe, for obvious reasons, that America is in serious decline, and that it will eventually descend into near-anarchic condition. I thought that the author (Captain Capitalism, who's blog I often read) might be a kindred spirit. I was wrong. He has the decline and its trajectory correct, but his solutions only apply to unmarried MEN under the age of about 40. Furthermore, the solutions smack of narcissism, nihilism, and amorality, the three human traits that produced the mess that America has become. He recommends avoiding marriage, avoiding children, and living a very minimalist lifestyle more suitable for young males who don't mind sleeping rough. He recommends making friends so that your band can protect itself from other gangs while marauding and possibly stealing things from other people. He sees suicide as a final solution when all else fails. He suggests that you leave the country if you can find one more free and better suited to your needs. On the plus side, he has quite a few good survival suggestions which are applicable to anyone in dire straights. He cites some pretty good resources for researching survival techniques and for researching the country you might plan on fleeing to if you are so inclined. There are some suggestions for asset protection in case the government decides to confiscate your wealth (a distinct possibility). The problems with this philosophy are obvious. 50% of us are married, most of us happily. A majority of those families already have children who, along with their wives and husbands, they would never abandon. Many own homes that are fully paid for and would never consider moving to another country. His philosophy is, of course completely useless for single mothers, or even for single, sexually attractive females. It assumes eternal youthfulness, eternal health, and a willingness to abandon anyone or anything that might interfere with your personal survival. Even the captain will (eventually) recognize that as you get older, minimalist lifestyles become less appealing and more difficult to maintain. They become more akin to homelessness with its attendant problems including depression leading to drug and alcohol abuse. There are very few "happy hobos". Better solutions are out there. You can prepare, but include making plans with family, relatives and friends while maintaining your moral compass. Try to maintain an island of real civilization rather than abandoning all civilized morals, beliefs and behavior. Most of us have skills which can be a source of income as well as pride. They can best be utilized in a community of people determined to cooperate rather than prey off of each other. There really ARE whole communities in various places around the country that have made such plans. There can be a light at the end of the tunnel only if some of us maintain the spark that can ignite one.
