The entire premise of this book hinges on an event that so utterly unbelievable it's impossible for me to understand the good reviews. I kept reading after seeing some of the reviews say things pick up in the 2nd half, even though the first half is like watching paint dry. It does indeed pick up in the second half, however when you get all the way to the end and the 'mystery' is solved, you are left shaking your head that you spent hours of your life reading it. SPOILER ALERT - Do not keep reading if you are planning to read this book. The idea that this abusive mentally ill man just happens to be driving in a drunk rage with his wife in the car and HAPPENS to spot his illegitimate son who he's never met (product of a one night stand) crossing the street and decides to run over him and kill him is insane. Seriously, the entire plot of this book hinges on this hit and run absurdity. And then, the abused wife decides she need to take the blame for it because she's worried the guy will kill her? You don't find this out until the last few pages, leaving you shaking your head that you read the whole thing.
