★★☆☆☆
My Kingdom for a Semicolon
Above and beyond any other issues in Once Upon a Lie, this novel is in desperate need of professional proofreading. The author appears to be wholly unfamiliar with the semicolon; at the same time, she is entirely enamoured with the commas that sprinkle this work seemingly at random. In addition to that, the dialogue seems oddly formal and archaic, and is more reminiscent of an early 1960s P.D. James novel than a contemporary work of fiction. Overall, while this book has interesting potential in terms of plot and characters, it ultimately reads as an un-proofed early draft and would have benefited enormously from additional professional expertise before publication.
