This is one of those books where you wish you had paid for it just so you could get a refund. I only made it through Chapter 3 and finally had to give up. The heroine is one of the most unlikable romance heroines ever. She's self-centered and immature. She thinks only of herself and her career - she doesn't give a single thought to her long-term boyfriend and his needs. Her boss breaks his leg, meaning someone has to fill in for his trip to Ireland. But the heroine's boyfriend's sister is getting married the next day and she's supposed to be a bridesmaid! Instead of giving the wedding a single thought, the heroine fights to get the assignment and then just can't understand why no one is supporting her (maybe she should have thought about supporting her boyfriend and honoring her previous commitments). If the heroine had been forced to go and felt bad about missing the wedding, that's different. Instead she doesn't care and heads out. Where she proceeds to send her (understandably) pissed off boyfriend a series of "funny" texts. No apologies. No asking for forgiveness. Just her pretending like what she did was fine and then she's actually upset that he doesn't respond to her poor attempts at humor!! What? The immaturity overwhelms the character and the story. She complains about everything, and this book is in serious need of some continuity editing. When she first gets to Ireland we're repeatedly told that it's dark. She talks about there not being any streetlights. Then she's describing the incredible views that she can somehow see in the dark. Then the book says "it started to darken." What? Keep your timeline straight, please. Plot and character issues aside, the writing itself is very poor. Subpar. I came here to read other reviews and realized this isn't a standalone and you'll have to read three more presumably terrible books to find out if she ends up with the guy she's going to cheat on her boyfriend with. No thanks. STEER CLEAR!
