Mocks Chinese names -- needs to be pulled
As a Chinese-American family, we've always hoped our 2-year old daughter would grow to admire Mulan as a role model and were excited to read the Mulan story from "5-minute Girl Power Stories." We were horrified to discover that the Chinese names in there are puns that mock the Chinese language: Sou Mai Ti ("So Mighty") and Pao Er Fu ("Powerful") treat the Chinese language as if it's silly gibberish but are at least positive words; what truly crossed the line was Wan Na Pu ("Wanna Poo"). This book, meant to empower and educate my daughter, instead communicates that the Asian names of her mother and grandparents are silly and meant to be mocked. We have tried emailing and communicating on facebook and will continue looking for other outlets, but we are sure that Disney understands that some rogue employees playing an inappropriate prank cannot be allowed to represent the very best of the company, especially amidst the Mulan film's release. We're hopeful that Disney will recall the book, issue an apology, and re-name the characters.
