Instant Ink wont recognize the printer .... fix steps listed
The printer overall has met our needs but I ran into an issue last night where it locked out all printing with a "Cannot print until printer is enrolled in instant ink".
I ran into a problem getting the printer to be recognized within the Instant Ink website. It worked fine even though it never found the printer... until the black ink ran out.
I received the message after replacing the Black ink cartridge with a brand new HP Cartridge. I had received one of the first printers of this model printer which had a bug that would not let it attach to the Instant Ink site due to a bad Web Tools install as well as not being able to get it in administration mode.
If you run into this, via the printers Web interface..
[...]
access the security menu section and select the Security settings Administrator checkbox. This will let you access the firmware driver download bypassing the "The administrator has not given you access to this feature"... something to this effect message.
Access the home menu and select the download driver option. After installing the driver and restarting the printer, the Instant Ink website finally recognised the printer and registered the cartridges.
I needed to print Airline tickets to bypass check-in but couldn't due to this error. It is unforgivable that HP would totally freeze the printer when installing a HP brand cartridge. I could possibly see putting up a soft stop message that could be bypassed for 5 days or so, but this is ridicules.
HP, don't hold your customers hostage with this type of antic!
