UPDATE: The LED time display stopped working shortly after my five star review below. Even if you turn off the display and try to use it only as a light alarm, the broken display turns itself on in the middle of the night and blinks brightly (which wakes me up). By broken I mean certain LED dashes no longer work, so where it should display a time its just senseless dashes reminiscent of Sanskrit or Klingon. It still "works" as an alarm if you don't mind waking up in the middle of the night and never have to use it to display the actual time or need to change your settings. NOW I understand all the negative reviews. Wow, super disappointed in this manufacturer. Stay away unless you're eager for disappointment. PREVIOUS: I've had this alarm for a bit now. I was skeptical because of the mixed reviews, but I didn't want to spend more than $25 or so on an experimental sunrise alarm. The setup is a little frustrating as the instructions are not the best and there are a lot of buttons that do things that are counterintuitive. BUT, after you finally figure it out and set it up, its AWESOME. The light really does wake me up, about 15 minutes before the alarm sound goes off. The biggest PRO for this alarm versus the more expensive Philips one is this - YOU CAN TURN OFF THE DISPLAY. Huzzah! Finally, an engineer figured out people want the ability to turn off the clock display at night. Not that easy to find an alarm that allows that. I suffer from circadian disorder and this cheap alarm has actually helped me to go from a 12:30 pm wakeup time to an 8:45 am wakeup time in a matter of days. NOTHING ELSE has ever worked - not cold showers, caffeine pills, or will power. Lets see how I'm able to maintain this new sleep schedule, but I'm optimistic. As for the construction of this alarm, I kinda like it. It's not made out of stainless steel or gold, but it doesn't feel THAT cheap either. I think for the price, its excellent. The other color lights are just fluff, I don't really use them but its nice to have that option.
