Defective HDMI chipset
I'm sure you'll read a lot about the fact hdmi 2.1 chipset is full of faults with next gen devices, but that isn't even half of it. A lot of faults carry over to CURRENT gen technology. HDR banding. this happens on any hdmi 2.0 mode. Yamaha refuses to accept fault either and blames everyone else. It's apple tv, it's every tv, it's PS4s fault it's boxes faul, every device that has HDR banding is to blame except for the yamaha, which is ONLY device that introduces it (every blamed device works fine if you simply cut yamaha out of middle). There are some users who claim they don't have banding, it's hard to see in a LOT of content and genuinely only happens when data mode is forced into YUV 422. Somehow the yamaha messes up communication in the chain and bands the signal. Now lets talk other HDMI 2.0 issues. X box series x which just arrived, has major black screen/sync issues going through reciever even again, in 2.0 mode. not a 2.1 problem only but 2.0 as well. Screen cuts in and out constantly. Also again, no problems if yamaha isn't in the chain. Future proofing fo 2.1? There is none. It's already documented ALL 2020 recievers with 2.1 chipsets have a same faulty chipset that is missing big parts of the standard. these devices were doomed from start. No amount of firmware updates will fix it either. Stick with your old receiver and wait til late 2021 when second gen 2.1 receivers hit market. This one and all the others are duds
