Bad skin reaction
I purchased the Seresto collar for large dogs for my greyhound, Bunny, at the strong recommendation of my veterinarian. Frontline and Advantix have both stopped working for flea control in my area (Nashville, TN). While they still work for ticks, our greyhound is always very itchy after we apply it - (we know that she has sensitive skin already). I have never liked flea collars, but this product appears to be very different from traditional flea collars. The first couple of weeks went okay. No sign of fleas, but ticks did not seem to be dying. Like other commenters have reported, that got better after a couple of weeks as the active ingredients got into the dog's system. My greyhound was annoyed by the collar, but otherwise it seemed to be okay. After one month, however, she began clawing at the skin on her neck, which had become red and inflamed. The collar was not too tight, that had been checked by the vet. Two fingers went under the collar easily. My wife and I had just gone out of town, and our slightly panicked dog sitter sent us a photo (which I wish I could post here) and asked what she should do. Of course I told her to cut the collar off. It is now almost 2 weeks later and the scabs on her neck have almost completely healed. Our vet says ours is the first bad reaction she has seen and we are reporting it to Bayer. This product may work well for others, but it caused more problems than it cured for our greyhound. As with any drug or topical treatment, purchasers should monitor their dogs for several weeks after starting this product.
