★☆☆☆☆
Unreliable
I originally purchased two WD My Passport 1TB external drives (one blue, one red) in September 2012 for backing up my work. They both worked fine until a few weeks ago (did I hear the warranty running out?). The red one crashed severely and is currently in data recovery process as I was also in process of migrating to a new computer and lost about a year's worth of work. I thought that I should quickly backup the backup blue one and ordered this (plus a red one for new backups). Not 12 hours after I began the process of copying files, this one (Ultra) crashed, becoming unusable. I am not trusting my work any longer with these drives - returning both of them for refund. Am going back to Seagate. I have 3 FreeAgent Gos that have been workhorses since 2010. Incidentally, learning from the data recovery process - WD drives have a non-standard proprietary USB connector, soldered in. The hard drive itself cannot be removed from the casing and you cannot connect it to another source should there simply be a failure in the USB connection.
