I purchased this feeder in July 2016. Within four months, the roof split, and a piece of it broke off. I decided to contact the seller, Nature's Way Bird Products, to help me remedy this under their five-year warranty. They were very prompt and courteous in answering my claim. Initially they asked me to send them one or two pictures of the broken roof, to which I complied. Their reply concurred that the damage would be covered under their five-year warranty, but would incur a shipping charge. At that point I decided the cost would not be worth the investment. I have noticed several recent one-star reviews of dissatisfied customers claiming the roof on this feeder had split. There seems to be a recent trend of defective materials being used in these feeders. I strongly feel that a consumer of a defective product, which breaks shortly after purchase, should incur zero cost in the replacement of that product. In the grand scheme of things, the amount of time and effort I have spent on this issue far outweighs the cost of this feeder. This is strictly a matter of principal at this point. Hence my one-star review. While I’m on a roll, I’d like to add my two cents about the functionality of upside down feeders. Some of the other negative reviews stated that squirrels had their way with this feeder. In all fairness, nowhere does it say that this feeder deters squirrels, raccoons nor the occasional tree sloth. I have tried several different styles of suet feeders, and by far, in my experience, this style of feeder keeps out the highest percentage of undesirables. To wrap it up, I’d like to say I would not recommend this particular feeder, since the quality of wood is questionable. I would, however, recommend a similar style feeder made of composite materials. I have seen them on Amazon, but they are twice the cost. I have owned a seed feeder comprised of composite materials for several years now, and it is still as good as the day I purchased it.
