Back to the drawing board for me
To begin with, let me explain one of my cats. Apparently this cat of mine believes that you don't go in the litter box and pee nicely on the litter, but instead you should hose down the walls of the box AND the top. Seriously, the TOP inside. I'm not sure how he does it but he does. We have tried numerous litter boxes to deal with this cat, as the problem is that I have to have a lid, and that means the box is in two pieces. Where the lid meets the bottom, pee trickles down, runs under the lip and pressure pushes it up into the groove where the lid sits. Then it leaks out the other side. And it sits there and stinks if you don't immediately clean it, and who is going to immediately clean every time the cat pees? So I had high hopes for this litter box as the side of the bottom piece is the tallest I've seen. I knew getting it that cleaning it wouldn't necessarily be the easiest as the rounded corners make scooping difficult. And the triangle shape means you can't just start scooping from one side and go to the other. So already one strike against it. And the plastic doesn't feel all that durable either. Unfortunately, while the tall bottom does mostly handle my cat urinating, it has two latches on the lid. Where these latches are on the inside, is a convenient gap for any urine to go through. And it definitely goes through there. I found that he's managing to pee such that it goes through this one area and ends up outside on the wall. And if that wasn't quite bad enough, the latches are not the easiest to undo. Like I expected, it is hard to clean, and does nothing to prevent litter from escaping. I think my next attempt at a litter box will be a heavy duty tote, something where the walls are a good foot and a half high, and then cut a hole in one side. Maybe that'll work. If you have a cat that does a better job of sitting and peeing directly on the litter, I think this would make a somewhat okay litter box. However, the trend towards rounded corners needs to go. Scoops aren't made rounded. I'd rather have hard edges that I could easily scrape through.
