These filters DO NOT remove contaminants. They are "compatible" with PUR water pitchers (as in, they fit), but not comparable!
I purchased these filters under the assumption that the filters were as good as the PUR-brand filters. They don't even come close and I wasted $23. The NSF is an independent, third-party reviewer that tests the quality of water filtration systems (among other things). They have various levels of certification including NSF/ANSI-42, NSF/ANSI-53, and NSF/ANSI-401. (Your can read up a summary on this certification by Googling a bit--I can't post links here.) These Aquacrest filters are certified at the NSF/ANSI-42 level, meaning that they make your water taste better, but DO NOT remove contaminants from your water. In other words, from a health perspective, these filters are useless. Again, I'd post the certifications direct from the NSF website, but Amazon does not allow me to do this. Google NSF certifications EcoLife and the production should come up. PUR water filters are certified at the NSF-401 level, which is the highest level of water filter certification and is capable of filtering out pharmaceutical contaminants, bacteria, etc. etc. I tried reaching out to the company with no response. A quick look at the contact us section of their website links you to directories at New York University. If you look at their parent company website (EcoLife), it is the same site, same format, same FAQ, same everything. In short, I'd avoid these unless you just want your water to taste better.
