I'm glad I didn't pay for this book--it would have been a waste of money. The problem isn't really so much the run of the mill serial killer scenario--it's more in the lack of descriptive text and character development. I read the whole thing and I still don't have a clue what "Bill" looks like physically. All I know about her partner is he is constantly "stunned" at Riley's ability to work a crime scene and have a credible opinion. Bill comes off as stupid. Even more ineffectual is her superior officer on this case. I don't believe that kind of incompetence would be tolerated by a one horse towns sheriff department not to mention the FBI. Riley seems to be a heroine that is going to be constantly held captive by mad killers as she consistently goes into crime scenes alone and unwilling to wait for any kind of help. In reality, she would never have a badge and a gun
