6 mos and it's time for a replacement
I have gotten extremely frustrated with this product after 6 months. I cannot vacuum a room without cleaning the head multiple times. With two small children leaving a trail of debris, this vacuum is NOT up to the task. I am not spending several minutes trying to pick up every single shred of anything the kids have left out or scattered because it WILL choke this machine up. The head has an extremely narrow opening behind the brush that is the first choke point. It's such a small opening I cannot get my pinky finger into it. This means anything smaller than the diameter of your pinky has to be picked off the floor. All the suction in the world is useless if it plugs pea-sized objects (cheerios, popcorn, etc...). The other big down side is cleaning the brush. While much easier to remove than my old DC07, this brush has to be cleaned far more frequently or the brush stops spinning. Because the brush is powered by suction and not a belt, it is fairly weak. It takes very little hair to stop it up and several minutes to clean it. I do hate to give this vacuum such a low rating, because I was a huge fan of the DC07 and of Dyson's story. Unfortunately, the flaws aren't minor. Yes, the unit has great suction with quality components, but the chokepoints are killing it for me and after 6 months, I think I'm ready to start shopping for a cheap replacement. I can't afford another Dyson experiment going back to their upright.
