Needs work
I was quite excited about getting this trailer but was quickly disappointed . I'll start with the small things first but read on it gets much worse . The first thing that was alarming was the cheap "B" load range tire 2 ply (in the tread) tires ,they are clearly marked to not exceed 55 mph . My previous trailer had C load 6 ply tires & I didn't think twice ab/ 70 mph. With the tires that come w/ this trailer not a chance . They need to be replaced unless you plan on towing just across town . The next small issue was the mounts for the fenders weren't welded in the same position on each axle so the fenders & tail lights were wildly different from side to side , one light is 6 inches higher than the other . The fenders are very ,very poorly stamped & badly distorted .
I replaced the tires, they aren't cheap & the trailer just got expensive . So with that done the other things were just cosmetic big deal , except that I paid $800....
THEN I LOADED A BIKE !! Things got real bad real fast , the front hinge w/ the tire chock is fine but the hinge in front of the axle is ridiculous . The gap in the joint opened up well over an inch & would open & close over every bump until the hitch pins that hold the hinge pins in place broke if I had used it as is . I welded a thick piece of plate metal to the under part of the front rail so that when it was unfolded it would go under the rear part of the rail . Nuts were then welded to the plate so that I could run bolts through the rail into the plate & keep it from flexing & opening up . The standard ill fitting pins were also replaced w/ bolts & double nuts , no slack that way . Finally a solid rail .
With all this done it was time to give it a try , I loaded the bike , a Triumph Thruxton & tied it down w/ a bar harness & the trailer flexed wildly in a torsional manner . I thought that I was looking at a very long ride but when it was strapped at the rear all seemed fine , finally . The first 180 miles it seemed as though the it had a solid axle , zero suspension . Then things got much better & the torsion axle seemed to be working fine . I towed the bike 600 miles & it towed great even at high speed but it should have with the additional work & money that I put into it . It loads & unloads very easy , no stress. I will probably end up liking this trailer but there is NO WAY that I would use this trailer as it comes shipped , again NO WAY ,NO HOW . I tried to post this review on Northern's site but they rejected it due to "tone" , reviews from them seem worthless if they only allow favorable reviews . I'm glad I can post here .
