Oh,dear.
I didn't figure out who murdered the victim, so I'm giving the book one star. That's generous. The story was supposed to be set in 1930, during which time the author has her characters using expressions that wouldn't' come into popular use for forty years or more. I've list count of the number of English country house murder mysteries I've read and reread over the past 50 years and never once have I encountered such expressions as "maybe he's not into" some object or activity, "that's not her thing". The book is filled with scrambled syntax, words used incorrectly, atrocious grammar and endless sentences that- used twenty words when ten well-chosen ones would have sufficed. The dialogue was stilted, characters were poorly drawn. The book is a mess. Miss Addison needs to start with extensive research into every aspect of life in the period about which she plans to write. A respected dictionary should be at her finger tips at all times. Pay attention to grammar-check features on your computer. Hire an editor-consult etiquette books. I could go on endlessly but i lack both the energy and the desire to spend any more time on this exercise'.
