The MUCH cheaper Neato works better!
Update: 2017-07-08
So now I hate this product. It lies at the bottom of my cellar stairs (see photo) after failing to see it's on a CLIFF! What stinks is that I have a thick carpet on which it gets stuck because it interprets the edge of the carpet as a 'cliff' but when it came upon a real cliff, like the steps to the basement, it didn't see them and took a tumble.
What's telling is that this happened a week ago, and I haven't bothered picking it up yet.
Instead, I went out and bought a $300 robot OUFY and have been using it very successfully, and happily, and without errors for the past week. Time to exterminate the ROOMBA.
I have been using iRobot & Neato products for years. When this came out, I went back and forth because of the price. After reading many of the reviews herein, I decided to take a chance and buy one. The experience has not been worth it!
For the money, this machine gets hung up too easily. It loses its location.
I do own a large open-floor plan home, however, the little NEATO, for 1/3 the price, was faster, quieter, and did not lose its location.
Error messages display and error codes are given verbally. What that error code is, I have no idea.
I ran my NEATOs daily for over 2 years. Kept them clean, and functioning. And they performed well.
For $900 I expected few to 0 problems and that has not been my experience. This machine will not only lose its place, but try and vacuum up rug corners, become hung up if rugs are not completely flat, eats curtain corners until the battery dies (so it can not tell when it's been stationary for too long a time period), and is heavy.
I got away from iRobot products because they vacuumed in a manner that was technically more efficient (start in the center of a room and work in a circular pattern until the battery died) but looked insane and could not return to their charger to recharge and pick up where it left off. When the Neato's came out, they vacuumed as a human would, in straight lines, and around corners, AND would return to the base, recharge and pick up where it left off.
This new iRobot promised all that but doesn't execute it better than a $300 Neato. As a matter of fact, it performs worse. And so it lies dormant at the bottom of the steps.
