It’s a hard-knock life for them...
Is your life ‘humdrum’? Are the only worries you have right now: Covid, (possible) unemployment, racism, urban violence, inequality, dictatorships, natural disasters,... ? Then get on your knees and thank the Lord because at least you are not Henry and Meghan Markle! Finding Freedom, a book the Duke and Mrs Duke have nothing to do with, exists to air out a variety of grievances as experienced by the Markle-Windsors. Nobody will deny that joining a family known as The Firm must be a daunting and nervous experience. Nobody was unwilling to cut Meghan Markle serious slack. Everybody - bar some but that is just the way of the world - was pleased to see the lost little prince of yore, find happiness with a sparkling Hollywood girl. What we were not prepared for was Meghan’s unfaltering belief in her own star-power and her expectations to be rewarded as such. She was now A-List, surely as the new star attraction, she was to get top-billing? Yeah...no... It does not work that way, Meghan. But your husband, who was born and bred in this family will be more than happy to explain and show how you can live the life of service you were so keen on in that engagement interview. What’s that? Oh, Harry agrees with you that you are both to be the stars of the show? And if that can’t happen, ‘well, you’ll just leave!’? Very funny, Meghan and Harry, very fu... oh, you left? And now there is Finding Freedom. Did we mention the Duke and Mrs Duke had absolutely no say in this book? Because they did not. Not a word. That ‘pee in the woods’ anecdote is a story told at many a dinner table! For those that had already drunk the Sussex Kool-Aid, this will be a riveting tale of how the heroes were thwarted from their true destiny at every angle by an evil family. For those still living in the real world... It’s toys being thrown out of a (Tyler Perry owned) pram by a couple who have seen their starry relaunch destroyed by what the rest of us need to go through as real life. Do they come across as petulant and blinded by their own ego? Yessir. Does it renew your respect for the Queen and for William and Kate, putting duty above all in what is a tremendously difficult year? Totally. I hope the Sussex duo feel somewhat lighter after this word-salad of grief and hard-done-by-ness because surely they are now too toxic to be of any interest to anyone.
