DYSON WARRANTY WARNING!
I've been a fan of Dyson - probably sucked in by their classy adds. Until now. Bought my wife a V6 BATTERY UNIT for Christmas. Last night was vacuuming up some pine needles on kitchen floor tracked in. The unit stopped and started flashing red light. Called Dyson: Oh, the pine needles were wet. $249 to replace a vacuum head (on a $299 COMPLETE unit) The tech rep was quite proficient in explaining that it is for DUST only, any moisture will void warranty. She deflecting every question I had with a scripted response. Something tells me that they have done this many, many times before. No offer of repair, just replace. It's not like I tried cleaning up a gallon of spilt milk. They were wet pine needles!! Maybe a leaf. I suppose I should have gotten my $75 shop vac to do the job. Seems if they have the technology to detect moisture in the head, they should be able to seal the bearings to protect the unit. That must be on the $699 unit... Seriously: if they have moisture sensor, just shut machine off until moisture clears. Since I can buy 3 Sharks for this. When my DC17 dies, rest assured I'll not replace it with a Dyson! Update: I have added two pictures of control board and motor unit. Both are in airflow path. A little epoxy on the board would go a long way to make the SMIC's a little moisture resistant. Dyson did contact me today through this forum (even though I am registered with two units on my Dyson account), but since I have disposed of the unit, I suspect that since they wouldn't inspect/repair the broken one, they would do even less for a land filled one. I did give battery and attachments to a friend who has one. By the way, there are no moisture warnings anywhere on the unit, or warning stickers of any kind. There is a sentence in the manual, again, no real warning/ emphasis to the fragility of the machine to moisture. I guess in the future, I need to read the manual thoroughly prior to each use. But then, I wasn't vacuuming up water... just some wet debris tracked in.
