Really disappointing show
I really wanted this show to succeed. The writing on the show is awful. From the overall story structure (nothing happened in the first two episodes) to the character development (Most of the characters are not relatable, and lack charisma with poor dialogue). The main character to this point, Galadriel, is completely unlikable. She is awful to everyone in the show. Out off all of her lines she had one line where she showed some character nuance and was lost quickly by going back to the combative character she was for the rest of the show. It could be her casting (lack of charisma and charm) or just the lines of dialogue in addition to; that she was being directed to act as a combative character.
The only part I found enjoyable was the dwarf scenes. All the characters were likable and engaging. Outside of that, I don't feel it is enough to spend my time watching it further. I hope that new writers will be brought in to right the ship for season 2. After two hours of viewing, I know very little about what the show is about. The trailers were nondescript about the show and I feel I know a little more than what the trailers presented.
A lot of reports covered the beautiful CGI developed for the show but I don't understand why the creators left out the medium shot. We see wide beautiful shots of the city cut to an interior scene for every city except the dwarven kingdom as we saw the two characters walk up the path and head to an elevator. There are no medium shots of the cities. For all the money claimed to be spent on the show we don't see any medium shots of the cities. In Return of the King, we saw Gondor on a wide and we saw Gandalf riding his horse through the city on a media before we got him in the throne room. I was excited to see the cities for the first time and we really don't see them except from afar.
I use to work in Hollywood and continue to work on production and feel I have a good understanding of story and filmmaking. It really seems the filmmakers broke all rules of filmmaking for some reason to create a story not worth watching. We can all pray for a good season 2 and maybe I'll tune back in.
I am not a bot I have a real account (please check) and I am a real person.
