Not the Merrell I used to be able to buy
I'm a 20 year Merrell sandal wearer. I buy them for the comfort and durability. The oldest pair I have is still intact, altho' the leather upper stretched out, so I buy a new pair about every 2-3 years. The straps may break or the leather stretch, but the foot bed has always been durable & comfortable. These have the foot bed worn through in only a few months. The fabric covering the sole has literally ripped under my toes & worn off the back of the heel. I only wear them indoors, so they are not "outdoor abused". The sole tread isn’t worn. This tearing started 2 months after purchase. I don't know what Merrell has done to save money, but it has not helped their product. I even called about 2 years ago when they started changing the cushioning and support to see what other sandals had with the same footbed as my past purchases ... customer service was not too informed, nor forthcoming. They seemed pretty irritated by the question. So, they are fine if you want to pay that much money for a sandal to last 3-6 months, depending on your use. My use is not abusive & around 3 months, they started wearing & by 6 months I need to get a new pair (was that by design??!)
