★★☆☆☆
Nothing like I expected or wanted. Very disappointed.
Let me say first off the bat that I wanted to like this book so much but I have to say that is not the case. The reasons I didn't like it are as follows. There is an overabundance of character history or development, to the point of it being distracting and monotonous. If the information provided was pertinent to the plot or gave you an understanding of why things played out the way they did then that would be one thing, but much of what is shared is not related to the story, at least in my eyes. With the inclusion of President Clinton I was expecting to get an insight into the oval office and the position of the President. Little nuggets of things we as average citizens don't know. Again that is not the case. The dialogue to me is not at all natural. It seems clunky at times. I am in general not a big fan of descript in a story. I prefer the story be told without knowing what color the curtains are in the room, or what suit or dress a character is wearing to me that information does not really add to the story. This book had entirely too much information that does not further the story. Given Mr. Patterson's history as a writer, I would have thought this was going to be a fast-paced adventure story. However, this trudges along at a pace so slow that it warrants skipping things just to get to the actual story. If I knew when I bought this book what I know now I wouldn't have bought it. I would return it if it was something I could do. Again I wanted to like this story but I could not on any level. Sorry Mr. President and Mr. Patterson.
