FIX w/EPOXY (or this product will get brittle and fail just as quickly as the original part you are replacing)
This Whirlpool design is fatally flawed, as the plastic prongs that hold the rollers in place will become brittle and break off again in 9-18 months. This part is used for hundreds of Whirlpool, Kenmore, and KitchenAid dishwashers and you can be sure that Whirlpool is well aware of the fact that it frequently fails. But there is a very simple fix:
Place a dab of epoxy between the prongs and the "I" axle that sits between them, being careful not to get epoxy on any surfaces that will touch the roller directly (you can sand epoxy off if either happens, but you might want to take the rollers off temporarily just to be safe). Ensure that the epoxy is pushed in as close to the base of the prong as possible, so the top half of each prong can still flex slightly once the epoxy sets. Be sure to use an epoxy rated for fiberglass (wet environments) that can handle exposure to 200 degree temps (dishwashers reach between 140-160 degrees) - I used PC SuperEpoxy: PC Products PC-SuperEpoxy Epoxy Adhesive Paste, Translucent - you can buy it as a 1oz syringe.
Allow the epoxy to harden (a few hours typically), and you'll never lose a prong again. In my case, I was able to use the epoxy directly on the broken part - even though I had lost 7 of 8 prongs, I found them all inside the dishwasher, figured out where each was originally attached, and used this technique to re-attach them and reinforce the one prong that remained attached. A few hours later, the re-attached prongs were just as strongly attached as the existing prong, and it seems that no amount of pressure will rip them out again.
