I am not sure how to begin on this book. The author is very talented in his writing but I am beyond appalled at some of the content he decided to put in his book that could have been left out and should have been left out. There was a way to convey the emotions a certain character had from tragic events in her life as a child to why she chose to do what she did for a child in need other than the vile way the author chose to write about the events that took place in that characters life. How anyone could recommend reading this with the content left in this book is beyond me. We live in a time that you can be imprisoned for watching child pornography but an author writing about horrific sexually explicit content that happened to a little girl & her perpetrators disgusting acts upon that child in complete and full detail that could give mentally unstable men or boys ideas as to what they could possibly do to a child is beyond me. Yes these horrendous acts happen but to put in a book in such a sexually explicit way should never be allowed, it should be criminal. I am flabbergasted that it even made it to being published and how Amazon could even recommend it for a First To Read program. There should have been a warning on this book! Had the author left out that horrendous act it would have been a good book but I will never read another book or anything from this author again.
