A Lone Wolf
I appear to be the only one here not blinded by the pin-up photo of Britney on the cover of her CD. Calling this album "Greatest Hits" is an understatement on many levels: first of all, most of the songs on this item were just her singles, so a more suitable title would have been "Singles," much like Mariah's #1s. Second of all, Britney's music is mostly electronically enhanced lyrics over loud, heart-racing beats that cause the listener to get caught up in wanting to dance and forget about listening to the words or the sound of her vocal range. For such a young artist, it is premature to release a CD of hits: it is as if she is just giving up. In my opinion, the strongest songs of hers are not even on this CD. Some of my favorites have been Shadow, Not a Girl (on the album), Brave New Girl, and Overprotected-- songs that show her softer side (the real girl behind the glamorous, overly sexualized image). Now that Britney has admitted she will take time away from her career, this album seems like a way to remind the public she has made a ridiculous amount of money in the past few years, and she is ready to capitalize again on the same songs that brought her popularity, airplay, and infamy.
