Use to be great!
I have owned the original Poolvergnuegen pool cleaner for over 12 years. Without exception it has performed flawlessly cleaning our 24k gallon lined pool. I have recommended it to others countless times, all with similar reviews from them. Just a few tire changes and it was as good as new! This year, however, some of the pieces that move independently on the bottom keeping the vacuum and allowing debris through have started to break free. So, I decided it was time to get a new one. To my surprise, Hayward has purchased this product and revamped it a little. Gotta be a good thing, right? Wrong! Our first unit failed to move when the pump timer turned the pump on. Had to pull the unit out and push start the impellers. Vacuum was more than sufficient, but the impeller was hanging up on something. I contacted Hayward to see if there was a simple fix. They referred me to a YouTube video that had basic troubleshooting steps. Remember, I have owned this for over 12 years. I am aware of what makes it work and what doesn't. So, I glued the old one back together and it continues to work great, albeit, maybe not for long. I returned the Hayward model and Amazon promptly sent another unit. Again, when the pump fires up, the device will not start without a prompting of the impeller. I am using a Pentair SuperFlo pump at 3000 rpm. Note, that once the impeller is started, this thing will run and continue running as on as low as 900 rpm. I am beyond my return date for Amazon and have little hope for Hayward help. Pretty expensive parts replacement. Sadly, I will never recommend this product again.
