Updated- Unsatisfactory slow cook program ! Also unsatisfactory Bake program!
Update 1-25-21. Wanted to cooked a few baked potatoes. See pic showing temp at 314.8°F after 45 minutes being set at 425°F. Deleted another star. This is so unfortunate. Money totally wasted for this device. You cannot depend on any accuracy whatsoever with the Instant Pot Aura multicooker.
Stay away...far, far away from this device.
I purchased the Instant Pot Aura to replace a multicooker that had a lid gasket.
I just grew tired of dealing with the gasket. It was cumbersome and time consuming to wash, thoroughly dry and reinstall. Although it performed well, another issue was the shape of the pot was somewhat oval and was pretty restrictive when choosing which baking dishes and pans it could accomodate. And it took quite some time to preheat. That was probably due to being only 1300 watts.
So..my first impression of the Aura was the inner pot was rectangular in shape. (Much better than oval.) Several of my small to medium sized baking dishes will work well in this cooker. And loaf pans without handles fit well.
The first item cooked was a meatloaf in the loaf pan pictured. This particular loaf pan is a little wider than usual but there was still room to spare. Cooked at 325°F for about 70 minutes to an internal temp of 160°F. Results were great.
The build quality of the Aura is solid and I appreciate the ceramic coating of the pot. At 1500 watts the Aura came to temp quickly both when sauteeing onions for the meatloaf and when preheating for baking.
Next up will be a roast chicken or banana bread...looking forward to both in this cooker as well as a pot of chili and beef stew.
UPDATE 9-11-20
If purchasing primarily for the slow cook program you may want to reconsider.
You cannot simply switch in mid cook from High to low or vice versa. You have to cancel the program and when you do restart, the cooker stays at very low temp for an EXTENDED time before coming to the reset level. This causes major delays in meal planning and food being finished on schedule. I contacted IP support and this is their response:
Thank you for contacting Instant Brands.
Once of the safety features of the Aura is that the control panel will (lock) once the unit has started. It does this to prevent any accidental adjustments and preventing your food from burning or programs being changed.
The "slow cook" function in the Aura is much lower and slower than that of a traditional slow cooker and this is because there is only heat coming from the bottom of the unit, unlike traditional slow cookers that heat from all sides.
When cooking large meals we suggest to ensure you are cooking unfrozen foods and using at least 2 cups of thin watery liquid to help with even heating.
When cooking things like soups, sauces and stews it is helpful to stir the contents periodically to ensure even heating throughout.
The “Slow Cook” function operates at 200-210ºF/93-99ºC on High, and 190-200ºF/88-93ºC on Low for 00:30-24:00 (HH:MM)
We hope this information was helpful, please feel free to reach back out should you require any further assistance.
So...control over the slow cooking process is taken out of my hands because they feel I may "accidently" adjust the temp, etc. Needless to say, I am very, very disappointed with this program on the multicooker. Control has been taken out of my hands. They didn't consider that I may WANT / NEED to change the cooking level!
