Table broke in a very dangerous manner
This is the 3rd Joola table I have purchased. The other two, I was very happy with as they held up to heavy use for a couple of years each in a light industrial environment as the lunch and break time entertainment for quick a few co-workers (and myself). The 3rd table, which I bought for personal use, had faulty welds and nearly crushed my daughter when those broke as the table was folded vertically. Like the other 2, this 3rd table assembled perfectly, and was used twice before I decided to stow it in the garage. Fortunately, my 18 month-old was on the opposite side of the table as the welds at the base broke and one of the table halves came crashing down. My arm got scratched up as I instinctively tried to grab the table, but nothing compared to how I would have felt if my daughter had been hurt. I made contact directly with Joola, and the first response (went right to VP Sales) was very strong. They communicated they were sorry, and offered a few free items and free replacement legs. I ended up returning the product to Amazon anyway after I couldn't shake the feeling of disgust at what could have happened. For me the 1-star review comes down to manufacturing and quality. As an engineer, I know that unplanned defects will occur, but in this case the welds were so terrible that any amount of force at the factory in product testing should have caught this. That just isn't excusable and my main purpose in this review is to get other owners (and especially fathers with small children) to make sure their welds are good before simply relying on them to hold up an 80 pound chunk of table surface that could easily do permanent harm to a small child. If you already have a table, check it. If you do buy one, and this is actually a very good deal on a great table, please take care. I don't normally write reviews unless I really feel there is information that needs to be shared--so take this for what its worth. Do a quick safety check when you store the table--better to have it break when you are ready than to crush a kiddo or neighbor kiddo.
