These don't do anything
I bought it because I didn't do enough research, but it is an out-and-out boondoggle. Google "laundry balls instead of detergent" and check out what Wikipedia and The Straight Dope have to say before you buy this and save yourself the cash. Basically, you're washing with plain water when you wash with these--and you'll notice your laundry is still getting clean for the first few washes because that's how much residual detergent is in your clothes. After that, you'll see some effect from the stain treatment they recommend, but not a whole lot. Maybe the mechanical effect of the ball is a little bit helpful, but as the Wikipedia article points out, you can do the same thing with an old golf ball. Since I spent the money already and I don't have an old golf ball, I guess I'll keep using it with detergent, but mostly I figure I learned two good lessons about 1) doing my research and 2) being sparing with the detergent. But lucky you! You can learn that lesson from my $16, too!
