Base stopped working -- seems to be a known issue
I can understand having to buy batteries for a product every now and then, but for the whole base station of a device to need replacement every year or two is ridiculous. My TV Ears stopped working even though lights still lit up and it still had a live battery. When I called the company for advice, they were not at all surprised and told me that the base units don't last forever and periodically need replacement. This was barely a year after i had purchased it. In the digital era, this is unacceptable. Why should something made with chips and other non-moving parts wear out so fast? I have other solid-state equipment that has lasted fifty years without a problem.
They offered to sell me a replacement base unit at a reduced price, but by the time we got through with shipping, plus a new battery just to have at the ready, it would have been around $70. Will pass.
